Week 1

The longest race I have ever run is a 5k, you heard me right.  The furthest I have ever run is about 6 miles.  That's just not enough for me so I'm saying it here and now...I am going to run my very first 1/2 marathon, dun dun dun!  May 5th is the Eau Claire Marathon here in my home town.  I paid my registration fee, so there's no going back now, help!

I found these workouts by Hal Higdon and combined two to challenge myself without setting myself up for failure.

Sunday: Rest - I can handle that
Monday: Run 3 miles
Tuesday: 6X400 at 5k pace (oops, I was supposed to do 5)
Wednesday: Cross train
Thursday: Stretch & strengthing
Friday: Run 3 miles
Saturday: Run 5 miles

Piece of cake.  I know, I know, I have no idea what's coming.  Trying to stay positive here.

Motivation

Sometimes on hard days I just don't feel like I can do it.  What do you do when you just...can't...do...it?  I try to draw on inspiration, quit complaining and think about what these ladies do to make it where they are...

20 min on...20 min off

I have joined the ranks of my fellow bloggers, and have a bit of an SI joint problem.  I'm so proud of it like a battle wound.  Yes, I will take care of it and therapize it (real word but only on this blog).  I obtained the name of a chiropractor from a co-worker and made an appointment.  Something to think about ladies: you know what happens when you take a shower after a run, throw on jeans and a shirt and go with wet hair and no make up...NEVER DO THAT when you are single and going to see a new doctor!  What happens?  He is not married, young and cute-dimples and all!  In the words of Yosemite Sam fippinglfrackinfruggin!

Anyway, here I am therapizing my back and taking it easy.  I already live in the frozen tundra, is an ice pack really necessary?

A little blessing

So, as you know I am "new" to running.  I use that expression lightly because in my heart and mind I have always been a runner, just a different kind of runner.  I am slowly but surely discovering this new world and I feel like I am becoming, well, myself...yes, I'm almost 40, blah blah blah!

If you are a new runner, you must read this blog post by Janae at HungryRunnerGirl!  Stop what you are doing, well, after you are done reading, and go there! She is awesome, her family is awesome, her posts are great and you will learn a ton.

What have you learned, the hard way, being a new runner?

Superbowl Sunday!

Warning: This post has nothing to do with running.  But, yay, today was another excuse to spend time with some family (those that don't have the flu-it's everywhere here!) When this is what is awaiting you, why would you even think about working out?

My Auntie CS is the most creative lady I know when it comes to party planning/crafting/sewing, etc..! (side note: my other Auntie CC is the most creative lady I know when it comes to decorating/visualizing/event organizing, etc..! you will meet her later)  Here is Auntie CS with my uncle RS at their party, they even dress the part ...

We had a little contest to see what the TOTAL score of the game would be, here are our predictions.  I obviously lost, booo (in my defense I thought we were predicting what the winners' score was).

We had these organic gluten-free kids cliff fruit rope snacks, de-lish!   No, I don't have any "kids" at home (just a college student) but I will be purchasing them.  Please ignore the top of the package that says "kids" they really are for adults...no really, ha ha.

Anyway, a fun time was had by all, regardless of who won...not a fan of either team so didn't matter to us.

What did you all do for your Superbowl Sunday?  Party or not interested in the game?
