Week 2 is complete, which means I have 22 more weeks until the ECHM, what?  That sounds like forever away but I know it will creep up on me quickly so I'd better just shut my mouth.  Moving on....

In other news, I had to end the week with a run on the treadmill because of the stupid snowfall. Blech!  Quickly you will learn that running on a treadmill for me is like...well, the ultimate torture.  You go nowhere, you see the same scenery, I just don't trust the accuracy of those machines and did I mention, you go nowhere?!

I decided to change up my whole training plan after much research for the past couple of weeks and I feel like this could work out well to get me to my goal.  Of course, I have to implement the plan but as of late, I am feeling really positive and dare I say, excited for this challenge if racing a half marathon.  I have to keep saying it out loud so don't mind me.

Week 2 of training for the half marathon looked like this:
I should probably stop saying "training for the half marathon" because I'm not actually training for the race just yet, just working on my base fitness right now.

Sunday: 2.05 mi @ 9:19 pace (easy run day)
Monday: Rest - back was hurting, went to Chiropractor & just iced
Tuesday:2.26 mi @ 9:14 pace - back pain gone (iced like it was 100 degrees out)
Wednesday: 1 hour Yoga session
Thursday: Rest/ice
Friday: 2.27 mi @ 9:21 pace (?slower than easy run day), ugh!
Saturday: Rest
Sunday: 3 mi @ 917 pace (on stupid treadmill)

As mentioned above I have switched my whole training plan around, so to begin, my training week will now go Mon-Sun.  This week I will also be incorporating some weight lifting and x-training on the Precore machine and stationary bike. Tentatively, my week looks like this:

M
X-train
Precore/bike
30 min
T
2 mi
W
Yoga – 1 hr
R
2 mi
F
2 mi
Sa
X-train
Precore/bike
30 min
Su
3 mi

This may be my last week of running 2 miles for the bulk of my run days.  It all depends on how my back is feeling for the week...fingers crossed

Be blessed

Week 1 is in the books, folks!  Not that I did anything hard or strenuous by any means last week, but I got my body movin' and I'm excited to go on this crazy adventure.

My "projected" schedule for the week looks like this...dun...dun...duuuunnnn...

Week 2 of half marathon training:

Sunday: 2 mile easy run
Monday: X-training
Tuesday: 2 miles
Wednesday: 1 hour Yoga session
Thursday X-training
Friday: 2 miles
Saturday: Rest

I'm not exactly sure how this is going to work out for me as I have only run two days this past week and had 2 full rest (do absolutely nothing regarding training) days but I have to get moving sometime right?  And do to my age, chronologically, I am aware I need to listen to my body if I want to make it to race day soooo, this is all subject to change.

Right now, my cross training days are probably going to be 15 minutes on the Precore and 15 minutes biking for a total of 30 minutes.  Next week I am going to start lifting weights to add to my cross training days.

So that I can go back and check on my progress, today I did:

5 minute warm up
Ran easy 2.05 miles outs & back route (in 40 degree cool weather-wind in my face the whole way back)
Time: 19:05
Splits: 9:05/9:33/:27
Pace: 9:19

Foam rolled & stretched (Houston...we STILL have knots!)

Be blessed,
J

Happy turkey day!

Thanksgiving was fun and relaxing and I'm feeling so blessed (and thankful of course).  Full belly, family, and football, what more could you ask for?

As always, it's hard to go back to work the next day but luckily everyone was out shopping so we weren't too busy.

Day 4 of half marathon training:

Yesterday I rested, for real rested so there was no exercise except for lifting my fork to my mouth.  I wonder how many calories were burned doing that??? Hmmm...

Day 5 of half marathon training:

Back to work.  Today I ran 2 miles again, to be exact:
5 minute warm up
Ran 2.02 mile outs & back route (in 39 degree brisk weather)
Time: 18:22
Splits: 9:01/9:08/:22
Pace: 9:06

Foam rolled & stretched (Houston...we have knots!)

Be blessed,
J

As I mentioned in my previous post, I have not been to this blog in over 3 years but I'm back because I want to keep myself accountable if nothing else for my training.

So, I thought I would go back and read my last post from eons ago just to see what I was up to and what do you know...I'm right back to where I started (and gave up) last time: "the furthest I've ever raced is a 5K...I'm signing up to do this half marathon...ignorance is bliss"...blah blah blah!  Nothing has changed in 3 1/2 years???  Ugh!  I might as well just cut and paste that last post!  Actually, I'm just going to pretend I didn't even see it and just move forward, you know, kind of like when you're shopping in the clothing department and you see someone touch a shirt they are paging through and it drops off of the hanger and they "pretend" they don't see it and just keep moving on?  Yeah, that's gonna be me now.

Today I signed up for the EC Half Marathon which is about 24 weeks from now.  I paid the registration fee and refuse to let it go to waste like last time (that was the 1 and only time I will do that).  I am giving myself plenty of time to do it right this time so I can get a base in, really be conscious about my training, and combat any injury that might try the sneak attack me.

Day 3 of half marathon training:

Today was a rest day so I went to a 1 hr Yoga session.  It was my 2nd time in a year.  I did things I didn't know I could do  (insert confused look on my face here)

Tomorrow is Thanksgiving, yay!  Enjoy your loved ones.

Be blessed,
J

HELLO...hello...hello

All I hear are crickets....

Apparently, I am the only crazy person that wanted to work out this morning.   Fine with me, that means I control the TV!

Today was a cross training day and since it is only day two of training, well, let's just say it was pretty easy.

Day 2 of half marathon training:

15 min on Precore (had me like..."wha??") and, well, that was pretty much it folks.

I had a Chiropractor appointment today so I knew I had to take it easy so I wasn't scolded.  This is only my 2nd day being cleared to actually work out so I'm watching myself.  So far so good.

Tomorrow is a rest day so I'll be going to Yoga.  Haven't done that in some years, should be fun.

Be blessed,
J

Microphone check 1-2...is this thing on???

My how time flies...It's been over 3 years since I've blogged said with a side whisper.   Well, I'm back and excited to get after it again.  I guess I'm basically just starting over...??

I've decided to chronicle my journey as I train for a half marathon.  There, I said it out loud so now I must commit!  No, I've never run 13.1 miles in my life.  The longest race I've ever run is a 5K which by the way was September 2015 I believe.  So, on that note...

Day 1 of half marathon training:

7 minute warm up
Run 2.04 mile out & back route (in 37 degree brisk weather)
Time: 18:39
Splits: 9:08/9:07/:24
Pace: 9:075 ??  my Garmin says 9:08 but I don't like that rounding
Foam rolled & stretched

1st run in the books and I'm feeling good about this...ignorance is bliss ya'll.

Have a blessed day!

Week 1

The longest race I have ever run is a 5k, you heard me right.  The furthest I have ever run is about 6 miles.  That's just not enough for me so I'm saying it here and now...I am going to run my very first 1/2 marathon, dun dun dun!  May 5th is the Eau Claire Marathon here in my home town.  I paid my registration fee, so there's no going back now, help!

I found these workouts by Hal Higdon and combined two to challenge myself without setting myself up for failure.

Sunday: Rest - I can handle that
Monday: Run 3 miles
Tuesday: 6X400 at 5k pace (oops, I was supposed to do 5)
Wednesday: Cross train
Thursday: Stretch & strengthing
Friday: Run 3 miles
Saturday: Run 5 miles

Piece of cake.  I know, I know, I have no idea what's coming.  Trying to stay positive here.
